The primary objective of the workshop was to develop a skilled workforce for the country's informal sector, as well as to explore methods for coordinating the skills development of workers in this sector and their integration into the industry. NSDA has initiated an exchange of views with representatives of 16 Industrial Skills Councils (ISCs) for the purpose of skill development, industrial linkages, and employment. Informal Sector Industry Skills Council (ISISC) is one of the largest and vibrant non-profit organizations (out of 16 ISCs) for linking Informal Sector Industries with pertinent Government bodies and other stakeholders who share common interests in workforce and sectoral development. As part of this, an exchange of views was held with representatives of the informal sector today. Workshop participants provided policy recommendations, practical guidance, and suggestions that have the potential to be incorporated into future work plans. Rehana Perven, Executive Chairman (Secretary) of NSDA, was present as the chief guest at the workshop organized under the Chairmanship of Mina Masud Uzzaman, Member -Planning & Skills Standard (Joint Secretary), NSDA. Alif Rudaba, Member-Registration and Certification (Additional Secretary) , NSDA, Mirza Nurul Ghani Shovon, Chairman of Informal Sector Industrial Skills Council (ISISC), and Munsur Hasan Khandaker, Vice Chairman, were present as special guests at the event. Senior officials of NSDA and the Member Secretary of ISISC, CEO of ISISC, EC members of ISISC, Staff of ISISC, and representatives from ISCs, government, and private organizations were present at the event, among others. Mr. Abdul Aziz Munshi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ISISC, presented the situation of the informal sector in Bangladesh and the role of ISISC for the development of the informal sector. He expressed Informal Sector Industry Skills Council (lSlSC) is working with the informal sector industries in Bangladesh since 2015 supported by the ILO, SWISS Contact, ActionAid, BRAC, SME Foundation and SNSDA. The major activities are skills development, awareness raising, creating industries linkage and employment opportunities, entrepreneurship development, policies advocacy, research, competency standards and curriculum development in the informal sector industries in Bangladesh. The Chairman of ISISC, Vice Chairman, Member Secretary, EC member of ISISC and participants of the workshop expressed their humbly request to NSDA, ILO, NHRDF, DTE, and donor agencies to come forward with extended support to ISISC so that it can continue its operation and facilitate producing of more qualified skilled workers for the Informal Sector for few more years till ISISC attain its financial suitability.
